What SD Card Does the Sony ZV-E10 II Need? V30, V60, and V90 by Recording Mode

Author:

The Sony ZV-E10 II supports both UHS-I and UHS-II SD cards, but the required speed rating depends on the video format.

Standard XAVC HS 4K and XAVC S 4K

Sony lists a maximum bitrate of 200 Mbps for these formats and specifies an SDHC or SDXC card rated U3 or higher when proxy recording is off.

XAVC S-I 4K

This is where the requirement jumps. The ZV-E10 II can record XAVC S-I 4K at up to 600 Mbps, and Sony specifies an SDXC V90 card or higher.

Proxy recording changes the requirement

When proxy recording is enabled with XAVC HS 4K or XAVC S 4K, Sony specifies an SDXC V60 card or higher because the camera is recording the main file and proxy data at the same time.

Do you need V90 for every kind of 4K?

No. Buying V90 for all ZV-E10 II shooting is unnecessary if you never use XAVC S-I. Standard 4K formats have lower card requirements.

Does UHS-II matter?

The camera supports UHS-II cards, which can improve transfer and write performance. But interface type and video speed class are separate things. A UHS-II card is not automatically a V90 card.

Simple buying rule

  • Regular XAVC S or HS 4K: U3 / V30-class media is a reasonable baseline.
  • 4K with proxy recording: use V60 or higher as Sony specifies.
  • XAVC S-I 4K: use V90.
