GoPro HERO13 Black is waterproof to 33 feet, or 10 meters, without an extra housing. The camera door must be properly closed and the seal must be clean and intact.
How deep can it go with GoPro’s Protective Housing?
GoPro rates the Protective Housing to 196 feet, or 60 meters.
Do you need the housing for swimming or snorkeling?
Not for depths within the camera’s 33-foot rating, assuming the camera is undamaged and properly sealed. The housing becomes useful for deeper dives and for added protection against impact, debris, and harsh environments.
Is the camera waterproof while the side door is open?
No. The battery and USB-C door is part of the waterproof seal. If it is open, removed, damaged, or contaminated with debris, the normal waterproof rating does not apply.
What if you want external power near water?
GoPro offers the Magnetic Door and Power Cable Kit for HERO13 Black. GoPro describes this as a weatherproof way to connect an external USB-C power source. Weatherproof external power is not the same thing as using an open standard battery door underwater.
